The Maasai Spear combines the design of a traditional East African Maasai spear with the durability of modern materials. ATTENTION!!! The Maasai Spear is a sturdy and fully functional fighting spear. It takes its dimensions and handling characteristics from traditional Maasai spears. A Maasai spear from the personal collection of Cold Steel's founder, Lynn C. Thompson. Maasai warriors use these unique spears for fighting and hunting. They are valuable personal possessions that are passed down from father to son. In their skilled and trained hands, this spear is quite formidable; the double-edged spearhead is as long as a short sword (589 mm long and 50 mm wide) and is as good for slashing as it is for stabbing. The back of the spear has a balancing long point, which not only adds balance to the spear but also serves as a heavy stabbing weapon. When assembled, the spear is 1 829 mm long and weighs 1 418 g. The Maasai have complete faith in this traditional weapon and have been training with it since the young Moran Maasai. In the rite of passage of a young boy into a warrior, they are required to single-handedly kill a lion with a spear to prove their worth and confirm their maturation into a man. This Maasai spear has a sleeve head and point made of tough and durable S50C carbon steel, matched with a carriage made of sturdy American Ash hardwood.The spear comes unassembled but is simply constructed with pre-drilled sleeves and included mounting screws. Detailed assembly instructions are printed on the instruction leaflet. Also included is a hard matrix Secure-Ex safety case.
