The Voyager® line of closing knives is one of the oldest, most desirable and best-selling lines in Cold Steel's history. The knives come in several blade shapes and each shape comes in a smooth and serrated blade option. The 3.5mm or 4mm thick blade is made from Japanese AUS 10A steel. This martensitic, stainless steel has very good strength properties and is mainly used as a material for cutting tools. Compared to AUS 8A, it holds the edge better and is more resistant to abrasion. The steel has then been heat treated for the perfect balance between edge holding and easy re-sharpening. The blade is treated with a finish called Stone Wash Finish. This is a blade finish, essentially a wash, with medium sized pieces of stone. This finish gives the product a supposed patina and gives the treated material a matte finish. It prevents unwanted glare from polished blades and is used in the manufacture of tactical knives. The steel used is able to hold the blade very well, which is already hand ground to a high sharpness from the factory. The Voyager® also offers all the other latest improvements and safety features. One-handed opening of the knife, aluminum handle recessing, or the use of the Tri-Ad Lock locking system. The lock prevents the knife from closing on its own or unintentionally, even after natural wear and tear over time. The handle is made of Griv-Ex™ material. It is a handle material with unique properties and is significantly stronger than Zy-Ex. The material is not subject to moisture, temperature changes, or warping. The deep texture offers amazing anti-slip properties of the handle.
The Voyager we sell has a slightly serrated blade just near the blade, in the picture it is all smooth, otherwise the knife is identical.
